94 Interns Take Part In Summer Community Day
Ninety-four college interns from eight companies “brought a sizzle” to the Summer Community Day facilitated by The Centre on Philanthropy on Friday, July 15.
A spokesperson said, “Community Days provide an opportunity for non-profits to submit a proposal for a volunteer project that can be completed in a half or full half, and are held annually in the Spring [April/May], Summer [July - Summer Interns only] and Fall [October/November].
“Participating companies and their partner non-profits for this year’s eighth annual event were Ascendant Group Limited with The Eliza DoLittle Society [Preparing & serving lunch for the hungry at the Cathedral’s Feeding Programme]; Butterfield Bank with The Bermuda National Trust [Clearing of trails at the Gladys Morrell Nature Reserve]; Deloitte with The Bermuda National Trust [Clearing of trails at the HT North Nature Reserve; and Ernst & Young with St. Peter’s Church [Gardening and cleaning].
“Additional participating companies included KPMG with Packwood Home [Painting, gardening, cleaning and recreational time with seniors]; Pricewaterhouse Coopers with the Bermuda Zoological Society [Painting & scraping behind aquarium tanks, and researching interactive play products in the Discovery Room/Cove]; Validus Re with The Bermuda Sloop Foundation [cleaning and organizing storage areas] and XL Catlin with Lorraine Rest Home [Gardening, cleaning, baking and recreational activities with seniors].”
Jenice Germain, Volunteer and Engagement Coordinator for The Centre on Philanthropy, said, “We are grateful to all participating non-profit organisations for hosting projects which gave student interns an opportunity to explore the world of philanthropy.
“Summer interns learned how making a positive impact in the community can not only be fun, but the power of sharing their skills with others. A special thank you to the team leaders who did an amazing job leading their group of interns, and photographing all the activities.”
“Team Leaders include Kyle Harvey, Kyra Hodsoll, Beverley Powell, Dominique Rawlins, Justin Ross, Chelsea Warren, Marlowe Smith, and Terrin Smith.”
