Govt Trainee Civil Engineers Finish Internships
Last week, Minister of Public Works Craig Cannonier visited the South Basin America’s Cup site in Dockyard in order to meet with two Government Trainee Civil Engineers, including Ricardo Graham-Ward and Allanette Hayward.
Both Mr. Graham-Ward and Ms. Hayward work in the Ministry of Public Works and were recently placed on secondment in the private sector to gain work experience, which will go towards their accreditation as Chartered Engineers.
They both completed their three-month internships at the South Basin site with BCM McAlpine.
Training Coordinator at the Ministry of Public Works Larry Sticca; Trainee Civil Engineer Ricardo Graham-Ward; BCM McAlpine Project Manager Richard Noel; Trainee Civil Engineer Allanette Hayward; Minister of Public Works Craig Cannonier; BCM McAlpine Site Superintendant Maurice Caines:
Mr. Graham-Ward said of the experience, “Working with BCM McAlpine on the Cross Island land reclamation project was a great experience that provided me with insight into the various facets of project management and site engineering. I was involved in a wide range of tasks including: site supervision, project management and setting out.
“The knowledge I gained from working alongside the project manager and construction superintendents allowed me to develop and improve upon the skills necessary to become a successful engineer. I intend to implement the knowledge gained in construction methods into my future structural designs to ensure that best practice is met and that thorough designs are produced.
“I would definitely recommend similar secondments to other trainees. The knowledge you gain is fundamental and definitely useful when working towards becoming a chartered engineer.”
Training Coordinator at the Ministry of Public Works Larry Sticca said, “It was a one-off opportunity that the trainees could learn a lot from, under the supervision of a private, experienced contractor.
“The evaluation reports for both trainees have come back and they were very favourable and highly complementary.”
BCM McAlpine Project Manager Richard Noel said, “BCM McAlpine were very pleased to assist in providing site experience for two local trainee civil engineers on this unique project and hope that the experience gained assists them in their ongoing professional development and leads to a successful career in construction.”
ALS!!! I’M SO PROUD OF YOU!!!
Sure hope those trainees did not get anywhere near any of the so-called engineers who had something to do with either the North Shore or Swizzle Inn roundabouts.
These new engineers will have some major works on their hands, i wish them the best and hope they do better than their predecessors.
