“Ask Your Premier” Email Address Launched

August 15, 2016

The Cabinet Office announced that “in an effort to enhance and increase community engagement by connecting directly with residents,” Premier Michael Dunkley has launched a new email address called AskYourPremier@gov.bm.

“The Cabinet Office advised that the new email address is in keeping with the Premier’s commitment to ensuring openness and transparency with the Bermuda community,” a spokesperson said.

Premier Dunkley said, “During my recent Cup Match address I touched on several important matters including our progress with hotel development and economic improvements, our commitment to growing jobs, our fight against crime, and our support for our youth and seniors.

“I also spoke about the importance of Government engaging more with the members of our community to ensure that we provided better communication about our policies and programmes and how they benefit and affect Bermudians.

“So today we have launched a new email address with the intent of inviting all residents who have any questions or comments about our programmes and initiatives to contact me directly and I will aim to provide the information they seek.”

The Premier also hoped that the new email address will serve to initiate discussions on other matters of importance, such as the social issues facing the community.

The Premier said, “In recent months my colleagues and I have had moments of reflection as it relates to important community conversations.

“The levels of tensions and discourse are concerning. My hope is that by engaging with residents and having frank, honest and collaborative discussions will be a step towards helping to unify our community.

“So in part, I see the introduction of the Ask Your Premier email as an opportunity to directly hear from our community and get their feedback on how we can find ways to build bridges, heal our divisions and work together to so that we can progress as a people and as a country.

The “Ask Your Premier” email address is currently active and Premier Dunkley said he “looks forward to discussing a range of topics of importance to the public.”

The people who attempted to shut down the island will never vote OBA no matter what you do. The best thing you can do is to ignore the noise and serve the people who actually voted for you. That means let’s get going on immigration reform. I’ve yet to see stage 1 even being talked about! What about balancing the budget? I’m tired of my taxes going up every year just to keep someone in a job!

    • NCM says:

Justin, the first stage of amendments to the Bermuda Immigration and Protection Act (BIPA)(to allow for non-Bermudian children who have been adopted to gain status) was passed in the House and Senate last month. Budget is well on the way to being balanced and if it weren’t for the massive interest payments on the debt racked up by the former government – it would be balanced.

See Bernews story on BIPA amendment: http://bernews.com/2016/07/we-support-pathways-welcomes-adoption-act-2016/

      • Man what says:

What about all the children who were born and raised here? Even the people who fell a few months or days short of being granted prc. What about split families who are half prc and half Bermudian or even nothing. I feel like that has been the major issue with regards to the immigration reform and it has time and time again been avoided. Both the OBA and the PLP are doing a super good job at making sure they never recieve votes from this demographic when they eventually do get status. Time and time again this issue arises but not one party does the correct and ethical thing. But hey, maybe one day I can be Bermudian like my older siblings! Yes, I am a member of a split-status family and it sucks.

      • justin says:

Thank you for the reminder on immigration reform – it just makes senses that adopted children of Bermudian parents should get status! Does that mean the OBA is already 33% right on immigration reform?

In terms of the budget, I don’t want to hear all the ‘ifs’ and ‘buts’. All I know is that taxes go up every year and I ain’t seeing anything in return. Time to trim the fat!!

      • Nanny Pat says:

Hey Justin – got any other questions you’d like to ask?

        • justin says:

If you’re implying that I email the Premier directly then you must be naive enough to actually believe the Premier will be reading each and every email. Lol

Plus, this is a nice medium because the Premier can gauge support by the likes and dislikes.

Face it, the OBA has wasted the past 4 years pandering to the likes of the BIU and PC. They will never get their votes so why not focus on serving people like me who actually voted them in?

    • More BS before the 2017 election says:

Premier how about the JET GATE report that you failed……..ensuring openness and transparency with the Bermuda Voters.

Release the report… put up or shut up!!! What does the ubp/OBA have to hide.

      • bee says:

i’d much rather find out where the PLP misappropriated the $2billion dollars. TAXPAYER dollars. nobody cares who went on a plane ride

      • Anbu says:

Nothing when it comes to “jet gate” as it cost us NOTHING!!!

      • To: MORE BS before the 2017 election:
Yeah!! There is quite a lot that the premier hides. He and that Fehy….!!!
It will be most interesting what their “next election platform” focuses on…. more 2,000 jobs…Ridiculous!!
That was never to be believed.

        • Jus' Wonderin' says:

You’re the idiot for believing them aren’t you…

      • Nanny Pat says:

Hey numbnuts, I guess you missed the article above…. just email the Premier if you have questions. No need to b*tch and moan here. Wait, what’s that? You don’t have the fortitude to ask him your questions directly? Or is it that Negative Nancies such as yourself just like to b*tch and moan to make themselves appear relevant? #sad.

        • Joe says:

So if they email the Premier he’s going to email the jet gate report back! If what happen wasn’t bad or didn’t cost the tax payers money why not release it to the public?

        • Nanny Pat:
The man is a total waste of time.
Hey!! Wait!! Looks like that includes your thoughts too.
What is to be gained by the e-mails being sent to him???

          • Nanny Pat says:

What’s to be gained by you ranting here?

          • Juicy Onion says:

Probably more than your spineless comments here which chi eve zero.

        • Serious Though says:

No democracy here, i have to email Premier, this is not a Bermuda Company this is Bermuda People government .. the Premier comes to ‘we the people’ …

          • Just the Tip says:

Why not Bermuda the company? It would actually be better wouldn’t it, get goals for the year and if you don’t make them a warning still don’t make them your fired. No Party politics, no one safe because their in that seat or the other just do your job or get out. Bermuda is small acting like a company might be better for us.

As for email thing, yeah its a bit of a PR stunt but its better then mailing yourself a bullet.

    • Yea ok lolololol says:

When have we ever seen a Politian to open and transparent that goes for OBA &r PLP.This is pure desperation before the next general election.

      • TO Yea ok lololol:
100%correct. It is all about desperation and searching for votes.
Watch the nonsense and craziness sent.
        Too much deception already!!

        • Jus' Wonderin' says:

          “WE HAD TO DECEIVE YOU”

no more deception than that…how do you feel about that?

    • Serious Though says:

meaning, go for it “these people”

  2. Codfish and Grits says:

WOW!…Is he ready for this influx of emails?

  3. Factual says:

This is a great initiative. Talk about transparency! No one will have ANY reason to go on Hate Radio and gripe any more! If you have a question, don’t b*tch and moan about it over the airways or on social media, JUST SEND THE PREMIER AN EMAIL!!! Easy. Done.

    • TO Factual:
That is not a true indication on how this man will handle that.
One would wonder why he is encouraging e-mails at this late date?
Could be a form of damage control.
      Not buying it.

    • Serious Though says:

Wow, this is what Our Premier proposed for our democracy , i know your email, facebook, Instagram, twitter, account AND NOW time to find you employer, insurance and the bank ………

  4. watching says:

He already has a facebook account and his own email address as the premier. What difference does one more email account mean if he is not going to be transparent with the answers? This is all PR in advance of the next election.

    • Triangle Drifter says:

Yep, whatever he does, in the eyes of some he will be doing it wrong. There is no changing their minds.

There are those who cannot be pleased by the OBA & do not want to be pleased by the OBA. These people should be ignored & the OBA get on with the job of pleasing the people who put them in the job.

      • Joe says:

So what your trying to say is they should ignore 75% of the black population because only 25% helped them win last time.

Next election it will be less and Premier Dunkley knows this already.

        • Triangle Drifter says:

So what you are trying to say is 75% of the black population are the ones showing up at public meetings screaming “No, no, no” or make up the same few faces over & over in what has become to be known as the “rent a crowd”?

          I don’t think so.

I’d like to think that a very large portion of that 75% is much more savy than that & that portion is growing everyday.

        • justin says:

I’m not sure where you are getting your stats but your logic is correct . Don’t forget that the people who blocked parliament were in the MINORITY. Most people actually support immigration reform.

    • TO: watching:
YES!! YES!!!YES!! I hope that the electorate can see through this foolishness!!
It is all about the next election.
May Bermudians not forget the damage this man and his group have done!!!

      • hmmmmm says:

To be honest the PLP screwed up also.

I would have thought that the UBP after changing their name to OBA to trick voters wouldn’t read the same play book, but it appears they are doing the same and not listening to the people.

The next election will be decided on RACE white votes vs black votes. The fact is neither party can change people’s mind sets.

The only people that can really decide who wins the 2017 election are swing voters.

The fact remains that swing voters are also 20% black Bermudians.

        • TO hhmmm:
Yes. Those swing voters are all black.
White voters would vote for a carrot , if that was a candidate.i.e. they never depart from their own even if the candidate is all wrong!!

      • Triangle Drifter says:

Care to give some examples he or the OBA have done. No, Jetgate does not count. It did not cost the taxpayer a single penny & the Premier at the time did the honourable thing & stepped down, unlike a previous Premier who among other things smuggled in people in the dead of night & then did not have the decency to apologize.

        • O.M.G says:

And we pay for the whole trip there and back the tax payers. We did not pay for jet gate as they keep bringing up. Anything they think will hurt the OBA very sad. They are doing there best to bring this country out of a bloody Hugh hole. If the PLP were still in God only know we’re we would be. Brown, Cox where are you if you love this country so much hello no were to be seen just in the back frowned causing more trouble didn’t you get enough money already.

  5. San George says:

He really intends to lead the OBA into an election – very brave. We don’t have national elections; his fellow MP’s elected him leader. This will be historic indeed.

  6. Unus Sed Leo says:

i see this as a grand comunicative devise.

  7. Real says:

Everytime this premier is asked a question he never answers with a straight answer, he always says a whole lot of nothing, he just grabs a bunch of words out the sky. Don’t believe me than listen to him tonight on the news report. So what makes asking him a question on this email any different.

  8. Karen says:

    A great idea!

  9. Serious Though says:

I never knew this country will go this far, 65,000 people have to send an email to your no Ministerial Premier and voice you concern… seriously? Brother Dunkley, you scared of neighborhood, the depleting schools, the question on airport, employment. why we the people have to send you an email, .. meaning we have to come to you, King Dunkley.

  10. Unbelievable says:

@Serious though….based on the negativity you and others are expressing and the disgusting listening skills displayed at several open forums…..an email is a good option. Far too many are stuck in their own political bias to even consider the OBA has made tremendous progress in one term.

  11. Dependent says:

Clean up the streets of all de cane grass. De island looks trashy.
