PAC To Meet On Airport Project This Thursday
The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Public Accounts will conduct a Public Hearing on Thursday, 27th October, at 2:30pm at St. Paul’s A.M.E. Church Centennial Hall on Court Street in Hamilton.
The announcement said, “The Standing Committee has invited the Financial Secretary to appear in public session for comment on the recent “Airport Redevelopment Options – Financial Comparison” analyses and report prepared by the Ministry of Finance.
“The Committee will later meet with Mr. Craig Mayor for discussion on a report entitled “Bermuda Airport Development – Exigent Economic Risks and Inadequate Due Diligence”, which he has produced and recently submitted to Members of the Legislature for their information.
“The Public Accounts Committee is comprised of Members of Parliament and is authorized by the House of Assembly to closely examine and report on matters relating to the accounts of the Government of Bermuda and, in particular, to investigate findings reported by the Auditor General in the Auditor’s Annual and other Special Reports.
“The current Chairman of the Committee is Mr. E. David Burt.
“Members of the public are invited to attend and observe the hearing to be held at St. Paul’s A.M.E. Church Centennial Hall, Court Street, Hamilton HM 12.”
Will the PAC ever actually look into the Auditor’s report? Not a cursory “the people got value for money” white wash….more along the lines of “outright fraud” as stated by the COI.
Fox guarding de hen house.
This is Burt trying to keep his name in the news until while he runs for party leader
Leave little Davey alone…he wants to keep reminding you of how smart he is…or wait!! MAYBE its his math skills??
How can Burt be the PC Chairman now that he has resigned?
I guess it will be a conflict of interest.
Like de Tweed Immigration plot.
Like having the PAC at the AME church…
The PAC is appointed by the Speaker of the House. Not the political party.
The rule, enshrined in law, that guides the Speaker is that the PAC must be chaired by a member of the elected Opposition.
It is customary, but certainly not required, that the PAC Chairman is the Opposition member who speaks to Finance.
Reality Check – facts often do upset the faithful…
If due diligence has not been carried out then the public purse is subject to abuse and abuse can be excessive. i.e. if the projected cost of a project is $120,000.00..and the over=run is $20,000.00 we could go with that providing there are supporting documents and professional advice…If final costs reached $200,000.00 than we might look at gross negligence, mis-use of public funds or worse.
Why is Burt still around? I am so tired of this man.
