‘Our Ocean, One Future’ Free Film Festival

November 2, 2016

The U.S. Consulate is partnering with the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute [BUEI] to sponsor a film festival focusing on oceans.

The ‘Our Ocean, One Future’ Film Festival will feature six films focusing on issues ranging from the impact of global warming to marine species preservation. Admission to all screenings is open to the public free of charge.

The festival opens on Friday, Nov. 4 at BUEI with a screening of Racing Extinction, a film by Oscar-winning director Louie Psihoyos [The Cove] which features never-before-seen images that expose issues of endangered species and mass extinction.

Short remarks to open the festival will start at 7:15 p.m. Admission is free, but attendees are asked to rsvp for the opening night by calling 294-0204.

The festival will continue all day on Saturday, Nov. 5, with five separate screenings, which will be repeated on Thursday, Nov. 10, National Museum Day.

No RSVPs are needed to attend any of these screenings. Other films to be shown include: Hot Tuna, Nuclear Sharks, Humpback Whales, Our Rising Oceans, and The Last Ocean. The full schedule is on the attached.

These films have been made available from the U.S. Department of State as a follow-up to the Our Ocean Conference which was held in Washington, D.C. in September.

At the conference, heads of state, foreign ministers, and other representatives from dozens of countries worldwide announced over 136 new initiatives on marine conservation and protection valued at more than $5.24 billion, as well as commitments on the protection of over 1.5 million square miles of ocean.

U.S. Consul General Mary Ellen Koenig remarked, “Bermuda is a natural host for this collection of excellent films which address compelling issues that impact the ocean that surround us.

“We hope that the public, including students and families, have the opportunity to attend the festival to see the beautiful images and learn more about the challenges facing the global community.”
