Premier Extends Well Wishes To President-Elect

Premier Michael Dunkley has today [Nov 9] written to President-Elect Donald Trump to extended well wishes.

In a letter to the President-Elect, Premier Dunkley expressed congratulations and also highlighted Bermuda’s longstanding friendship and historical ties with the US‎.

A spokesperson said, “Acknowledging that the presidential campaign was a “grueling one, which evoked strong emotions”, the Premier said he was encouraged by the President-Elect’s comments last evening [Nov. 8] of committing to work to bridge the divide in America.

“Premier Dunkley also has written a letter of appreciation to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, in which he commended Mrs. Clinton for conducting a campaign of integrity and civility. He also shared with Mrs. Clinton that her messages of unity, respect, equality, inclusiveness, hope and optimism were sentiments that resonated here in Bermuda.

“And while the election outcome for Mrs. Clinton was a “heartbreaking one”, the Premier thanked the Secretary of State for being a compassionate advocate for all of humanity, regardless of the color of their skin, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs or country of origin. He closed the letter by thanking the Secretary of State for her “distinguished service to the people of the United States”.

      It is customary for nation heads to send these types of communications. Are you under some illusion Mr. Dunkley was the only leader of a foreign country to congratulate the current American president-elect?

      Not always in politics. In fact diplomacy is better than an ego who ‘tells it like it is’, it is what has stopped wars where ‘truthful’ egos have started them.

    This was a clasic example of “Hobson’s choice” the problem is their national debt and who was best to fix it? There will be some hard choices made.

    What about this countries national debt per capita it’s up there, and don’t for get the private citizens personal debt for cars and housing and more. Christmas is not over yet.
