Shaunte Simons “Honoured” To Be Called To Bar
Shaunte Simons was called to the Bar on Friday, saying she is “extremely honoured and privileged” to be the newest member of the legal fraternity, and hopes that her “contributions to this profession and to Bermuda during my career will make a positive mark on the community.”
A former Ms Teen Bermuda, Ms. Simons already has a long list of accomplishments, having been involved in the Youth Parliament, National Youth Council, Youth Peace Builders, Youth News, Youth Net Mentoring Program, Prom Committee, the Student Council and representing Bermuda at a Youth United Nations Conference in New York as the lead debater.
In her speech, Ms. Simons said, “I am extremely honoured and privileged to stand before you as the newest member of the legal fraternity. To receive this prestigious appointment is a source of great joy, pride and achievement that I will cherish for a lifetime.
“I have had to work very hard to reach this point in my life. I was not born with a silver spoon and as such I have had to experience a great deal to arrive at this very point to stand before you today.
“All that I have achieved in the past has seemingly led me on a path to reach my goal today of being a Barrister. It has been a challenging road, but it has definitely been worth the sacrifice.”
Ms. Simons thanked the people and organizations that have helped her along her path, including ABIC, Conyers Dill & Pearman, Sedgwick Chudleigh, Knowledge Quest, Trott & Duncan, The Green Family, the Jamaican Association, Rev. Dr. Blanche Burchall, Glory Temple Family, Bishop and First Lady Duncan, and extended her extensive thanks to all her family for their support.
“You have supported me, believed in me, prayed for me, cheered me on and comforted me,” she noted
Ms. Simons said, “As I launch into my new career, becoming a member of the Bermuda Bar is an honour that I will cherish for the rest of my life.
“I promise to live up to my potential and exceed your expectations as I develop as a young Barrister. With the help of God I hope that my contributions to this profession and to Bermuda during my career will make a positive mark on the community.
“By creating my own path, I will ever look to those who have carved the way before me and hope to leave a longing impression on those who will come after me.
“I am extremely humbled by the circle of support that I have here today. I look forward to proving myself as a successful, committed and competent member of the Bermuda Bar. Today is just the beginning, and I feel extremely privileged to enter into Bermuda’s legal profession.”
