Court: 36-Year-Old Admits Stealing Codfish
Appearing in Magistrates Court, a 36-year-old man admitted stealing codfish from a store in Sandys.
Kinole Simons pleaded guilty to a charge that, in 5th February 2017, he stole a package of codfish value at around $15.00 from Arnold’s in Sandys.
The evidence offered by the Crown Prosecutor was that a staff member saw Mr Simons place a packet of codfish in the back of his trouser waistband and then continue to shop.
The staff member alerted a supervisor who observed that Mr Simons paid for other goods, but that the codfish was not amongst the items paid for.
Mr Simons was accosted outside the shop, and was asked to raise his jacket; at which time the codfish packet fell out. Told that police would be called, he ran off, however police later arrested Mr Simons.
When asked, Mr Simons explained to Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo that at the time, he was ‘hard up’ and hungry. The Magistrate fined Mr Simons $200.
