Ascendant Commemorates World Safety Day
This morning [April 28], Ascendant Group held a commemorative ceremony in honour of World Day for Safety & Health at Work, with the ceremony including a wreath laying and minute of silence to honour the 17 BELCO employees who have lost their lives in the line of duty since BELCO’s inception.
The Ceremony included welcoming remarks from Jessica McClure, BELCO’s Manager, Occupational Health, Safety & Environment and Denton Williams, COO of BELCO and SVP of Ascendant Group Limited, a keynote speech from Minister of Health & Seniors, Jeanne Atherden, and a wreath laying, prayer and minute of silence to honour the 17 BELCO employees who have lost their lives in the line of duty since BELCO’s inception.
The Ceremony concluded with a Rope Rescue Demonstration by BELCO’s Rope Rescue, the only certified rope rescue team in Bermuda.
Today completes Ascendant’s 2017 OHSE [Occupational Health, Safety & Environment] & Wellness Week, which ran all week [April 24–28] and included daily health, safety and environmental activities for the employees of the Ascendant Group companies including:
- Launch of an occupational health & safety survey for employees;
- In celebration of Earth Day, employees had the opportunity to attend Bluebird Box building workshops at the National Trust;
- An OHSE Jeopardy competition was held including the following categories: safety moments, fire safety, acronyms, tree hugger and Ascendant trivia;
- Wellness Fair on Thursday from 10am – 2pm for all employees that included representatives from organisations involved in health and well-being related products and services.
