IRM & EY Bermuda To Host Blockchain Forum
The Institute of Risk Management [IRM] Bermuda Group and EY Bermuda Ltd. will host “Blockchain: Cutting through the Hype,” a forum focused on distributed ledger technology [DLT] in the reinsurance marketplace.
The event will be held on Friday, 21 April from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at XL Catlin. The forum will begin a presentation and visual representation of uses for DLT. Attendees can also expect a keynote panel discussing various aspects of DLT and its applicability to the reinsurance space. A number of executives responsible for strategy and operations within financial services institutions have registered to attend.
Zurich Insurance Company Limited and B3i consortium member Claus Walter will lead the presentation on the use cases of DLT in the [re]insurance industry. With over 20 years of insurance industry experience, Walter represents the Zurich Insurance business and process-integration perspective in the B3i consortium. He is responsible for aligning process and functionality needs with the growing number of B3i consortium members.
Along with Walter, the panel will also include Univac Patel, Head of Strategy at ACORD, and Gavin Woods, Counsel at Appleby Bermuda, for a discussion of the challenges and opportunities of distributed ledger technology for the [re]insurance industry.
Patel is responsible for strategy, membership, events and education for the nonprofit firm ACORD and also has a wealth of experience in the insurance industry having previously worked at Marsh and State Farm.
Woods is Counsel within the corporate department of Appleby’s Bermuda office and a member of the Insurance team who specializes in corporate finance, corporate structuring and insurance regulatory matters. Collectively, the panelists bring a strong understanding of the application of DLT within financial services with a particular focus on [re]insurance.
