Police Respond To Incident In St David’s
[Updated] Police are currently on scene responding to an incident at St David’s Cricket Club this evening [April 14] and an ambulance was also seen in the area, however it did not appear to leave with a patient. Unofficial reports indicate it was some form of an altercation, and further details are limited at this time, however we will update as able.
Update: A police spokesperson said, “Around 8:30pm Friday, April 14th police and first responders were dispatched to a reported disturbance at St. David’s Cricket Club.
“Police officers arrived a short time later but the individuals involved had already left the area.
“An injured 18-year-old St. George’s man believed to have been hurt in the incident was then located at the scene. However, apparently he refused medical treatment by attending EMTs and has so far declined to assist police.
“Inquiries continue and any witnesses or persons with relevant information should contact the main police telephone number 295-0011.”
Some people need to know how to behave when they go out. St. Davids is a quiet and peaceful place. It makes me angry that some hulligans come around and act up. You are not allowed to come back….ever!! Ban them all!!
I understand your sentiments, but there is no way to ban someone from an area like that. The club can ban them if they wish.
How about banning alcohol (liquid courage) dealers from sports facilities and invent new revenue streams?
Do you mean Hooligans??? You banning them like Trumpf?
Get we all just get along? I know that’s wishful thinking
Do not bring your weapons of hate and discontent into our community, we have felt your heart and mind and are moving on. It was a great day and because of the love of St. David”s for Family and Commuminity. Do you sons of anarchy know how the gang culture came to be in Bermuda?? Is your gang fellowship more important to you than your child.children and family? Sseeing them grow up happy and having wonderful memories or to remember daddy lying in a coffin or behind bars? Respect our Community, our families and our guests by leaving violence and retaliation away for they are never welcome!
Who said anything about this being a gang thing?
Why couldn’t this just be a group of guys with too much to drink who got into a fight.
It’s funny how older people get selective amneisnisia when a fight or incident occurs. Back in their day when a group of guys got into a fight they considered it men being men now it’s gangs.
At no point in this article are gangs being mentioned
Yes, there are random fights that break out but you have to admit a lot of this is gang related. I think the most explosive substance known to humanity is something called testosterone.
What you’re saying makes sense to rational people, but unfortunately these guys don’t think like that. I don’t know what could be said to make them change their way of thinking.
From what I’m made to understand, the “altercation” started almost 45 minutes before the police finally showed up. I counted over a dozen police officers at the scene of the go-kart race around 4 o’clock. I watched as they piled into vehicles and drove off, where did they all go? Poor policing, in my opinion, as we all know nightfall seems to bring out the troublemakers.
They were only there to protect the racers and make sure the road was cut off. It’s not bad policing they have many other parties and events going on plus accidents and what not.
We cannot be baby sat by the police we need to take control of our communities.
They went to eat fish cakes.
As a tax payer, I would prefer that the police do NOT provide free security to a private business. St Davids Cricket Club has a responsibility to provide a safe environment to those who patronize their property. It is so easy for those in the peanut gallery like VJ to blame poor policing instead of poor behaviour of these ‘trouble makers’…..
If more care was spent teaching your offspring how to grow up as responsible adults you wouldn’t need so much policing. Its always easy to blame the police but as you point at them there are 3 fingers pointing back at you.
The police know who the culprits are cause its the same fools all the time!
Day after rick olson racial post, this happens. Hmmm this not a good look!
Good day all.
Well said “Islander”.
St. David’s Island is well attended during this season by families throughout the whole island. It is a safe haven for the entire family. If love, unity and fun are not your agenda, STAY AWAY!
There is a right way and a wrong way to deal with unfortunate situations.
Why do they not get seem to get it right ?
Are we going to be judged not only as the most expensive country on the planet and will we hit the top of the list as the most unruly. Got to blame something ! poor education.
I believe it was great that several clubs hosted kite flying at their respective grounds, unfortunately violence is becoming more and more frequent and can happen in a matter of seconds and end in less than 4 minutes, and it is ever so difficul t to have adequate officers on hand to handle any disturbance that may occur. 99.5 percent of the persons in attendance are not involved. The law requires X amount of security persons present for every one hundred persons. If the club has to pay out $5,000 to $8,000.00 they may surely reconsider hosting such an event or take short-cuts..Should clubs insist on metal detectors and i.d. would increased tension rests on security personnel. Should the club charge 20 to 40 dollars for admission based on the type of function ? Police will only attend or be present to maintain a degree of order, in this case traffic control for the Go-kart races and a few other activities…when you transition to a nightclub /dance / bar activity than you are speaking of a different crowd and a different approach and during the hours of darkness anything can happen that much quicker…And who really wants to put their own safety at risk..when you can hardly see who is who or what they may be carrying.
