Living Reefs To Host ‘Coral Garden Party’

May 16, 2017

The Bermuda’s Living Reefs Foundation will host a ‘Coral Garden Party’ on May 19 at 6.30pm at the Rosewood Tucker’s Point Resort.

A spokesperson said, “Have you ever heard of Coral Gardening? This relatively new approach to restoring coral reefs is now launched in Bermuda. Since August 2016, Bermuda’s Living Reefs Foundation has installed two coral gardens.

“Living Reefs is collaborating with BIOS scientists and focusing on restoring the reefs of Castle Harbour, severely damaged more than 50 years ago during the construction of the airport. The goal is to enhance coral recruitment by adapting, developing, testing techniques in coral gardening.

“Working with David Vaughan of the Mote Marine Labs in Florida, Living Reefs will be testing his new and successful “Fusion” technique, which is a breakthrough in restoring boulder coral species, dominant in Bermuda’s reefs.

“You can learn more and mingle with scientists on May 19th, in the beautiful setting of Tucker’s Point Resort, enjoying cocktails by the poolside. A silent auction with unique prizes donated by America’s Cup teams, and the opportunity to adopt your very own coral garden will be offered to you. It promises to be a lovely night, informative and fun with Bermuda’s live band “Go Down Berries”. Children are welcomed.

“Tickets must be purchased before Wednesday evening! Go here for direct purchase and to www.livingreefs.org for more information on Bermuda’s Coral Gardens.”
