Man Dies After Collision On Middle Rd, Warwick

[Updated: Police confirm that the rider, believed to be a 68-year-old man, has died. This marks the 4th road fatality of 2017, and the second in less than 24 hours.]

There are traffic delays this morning [May 11] in the Middle Road area in Warwick due to a collision the police said involves a car and a rental cycle and “may involve serious injury.”

“Details are limited at this time. However, initial information suggests that it involves a truck and a rental cycle and may involve serious injury.

“Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible until further notice and to expect delays in that vicinity.”

Update 11.01am: The police said, “The collision actually occurred on Middle Road in Warwick, near the junction with Burnt House Hill and involved a car and a rental cycle, not a truck as initially indicated.”

“The rider has been taken to the hospital via ambulance and an update on their condition will be provided in due course.”

A police spokesperson said, “Around 10am today [May 11th] police and first responders were dispatched to a reported serious collision on Middle Road in Warwick, near the junction with Burnt House Hill.

“It appears that a car and a rental cycle were involved. The injured rider, believed to be a 68-year-old male, was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance and later pronounced dead.

“No further information regarding the deceased will be provided at this time until his next kin has been notified.

“Traffic diversions in the area remain in effect while the scene is being processed by the relevant police personnel.

“The investigation into this fatal collision, the fourth for 2017 continues and any witnesses are asked to contact the Roads Policing Unit on 247-1788 or the main police telephone number 295-0011.”

Update 1.44pm: The police said, “Traffic diversions are no longer in effect along a section of Middle Road, Warwick near Burnt House Hill and traffic flow in the area is returning to normal.

“The Bermuda Police Service would like to thank the motoring public for their patience and cooperation while this fatal collision scene was processed.”
