This week’s ‘Minute with Mikaela’ highlights the aims of the America’s Cup aims to ensure sustainability, saying that “all six teams sign a sustainability charter essentially agreeing to work together to implement the 10 points of the charter.”
During the Minute, Mikaela Pearman said, “One of the key focuses for 35th America’s Cup is sustainability. All six teams sign a sustainability charter essentially agreeing to work together to implement the 10 points of the charter. Here it is.
“Eliminating single use plastics. One of the easiest ways to do this is by using refillable water bottles. Maximize, reuse, and recycling. The team are committed to reducing waste and recycling. Conserving water. This relates particularly to boat wash down when possible.
“Avoiding water pollution. An easy way to do this is by using environmentally friendly cleaning fluids for the boats. Reducing energy and carbon impact. The teams are committed to understanding their carbon footprint and identifying opportunities to reduce it. Protecting marine habitats. This comes down to minimizing the risk of the boats harming the marine environment.
“Being diverse and inclusive. The teams are committed to embracing diversity and being inclusive in all activities. Supporting the local economy. Such as using local suppliers where the teams operate. Communicating a better future. This means communicating positive actions and inspiring fans, suppliers, and local communities to do the same.
“Finally, sustainability champions. Each team has identified a sustainability champion to keep them on track. ”
