Countdown To 2017 BHW Parade Of Bands
The excitement continues to build as the Bermuda Heroes Weekend is set to get underway soon, with a host of events to take place, including the always popular Parade of Bands, which will be held on Monday, June 19 at Clearwater Beach, starting at 2pm.
According to the BHW website, the Parade will feature Nova Mas International, Intense, Ultimate Treasures, Passion Bermuda Mas Band, Code Red, and Party People, with each band to have its own theme and costume style.
Nova Mas, describes their theme as “VIVID: Explore.Dream.Discover, inspired by natural world and wonders.” The inspiration for their costumes stems from various natural wonders such as the Northern Lights, the Great Barrier Reef, the Grand Canyon, and Bermuda’s own Crystal Caves. Their Band Leaders are Seldon Woolridge and Chesney Pearman.
According to their website the “overall vibe and rhythm of our Mas will be a festival celebration, merging modern day beats with an eruption of fantasy energy.” Their lineup of talent includes DJ Puffy from Barbados, Bermuda’s DJ Chubb, and The Freshmen from Toronto amongst others.

The Intense band, the brainchild of Bermuda’s DJ Rusty G, will have a ‘mythica’ theme, which they say is “inspired by the most intriguing mythical creatures of the world and created by first-class designers R Babb, Humzee and Christian Boucaud.” Their Band Leaders are Russell Griffith aka DJ Rusty G, Ryan Swan, Najib Chentouf & Karthika Griffith
The theme for Ultimate Treasures, led by Karimah Hollis, is ‘The Ultimate Eruption.’ On their website they said: “Our Mas takes pride on its name and will leave masqueraders with a trendsetting Ultimate experience so remarkable that we will forever remain Ultimate!” Their Band Leader is Karimah Hollis.
The Passion Bermuda Mas Band will have a ‘Secret Garden’ theme. Their costumes will be modeled after various flowers such as the Poinciana, the Yellow Hibiscus, and The Bird of Paradise. Passion Bermuda describes themselves as “Bermuda’s most experienced Mas Band” whose “display has grown into a movement that cannot be denied.” Their Band Leaders are Yaniko Smith, Carlene Rodney and Jahvon Washington.
Code Red says “we strive to be original with our themes while promoting top notch quality entertainment for the mass,” describing themselves as an “experienced family of #feteaholicbda individuals.” Their Band Leaders are Abi Rogers, Jason [Jugglin Jason] Ford, Nicola Bromby, Jacobi Robinson, Jaime Ramsay, and Darin [Blacka Knights] Minors.
Party People, the largest band for 2015 and 2016, describes their theme as “Lost in the Triangle: The Journey Continues.” Their website says that their goal is to “break down the barriers of age and race while bringing together groups of people who known how to have a good time.” Their Band Leaders are Talia Braithwaite, Wayne Raynor, Keidric Smith, and DeVraé Tankard.
