Video: GMB Wish Land Rover BAR Good Luck
Yesterday, the British team discovered a technical issue with their wingsail, sending them back to their base to attempt to take out the damaged wingsail and replace it with a spare.
However, they were unable to send their boat back out, forcing the team to forfeit their second race of the day. This meant that Emirates Team New Zealand won both races – their second one by default as Ainslie’s Land Rover BAR was unable to make the start.
On Good Morning Britain this morning [June 6] host Piers Morgan said, “Bad news for Sir Ben Ainslie and his team the Land Rover BAR, team in the America’s Cup challenge. They’re trying to get through to the America’s Cup to win it for Britain. They had a failure in their wing yesterday. New Zealand have gone two nil up in the first to five to get to the playoffs.
“Ben, very honest in it’s a disaster, we’re really up against it. Just want to wish Sir Ben and the team all the very best. They’re flying the flag for Britain. It’s an unbelievably tough thing that they’re doing right now, so much work and preparation. He’s a top bloke and we wish you all the very best. Come one Sir Ben, you can pull this round! You’re a great Olympian champion. We have every faith in you.
