Police Confirm Death Of 21-Year-Old Woman

[Updated] The police have confirmed that there was a fatal collision in Southampton this afternoon.

A police spokesperson said, “Traffic diversions are currently in effect near Heron Bay Primary School on Middle Road in Southampton due to a reported fatal collision that occurred around 3:10pm today.

“Details are limited at this time. However, the scene is being processed by the relevant police personnel.

“Until further notice voters in Constituency 30, Southampton East Central, that intend on driving to their polling station at the school are advised to take South Road and either turn down Lighthouse Road or travel through the Fairmont Southampton Resort property to access Heron Bay Primary School via Middle Road.

“An update will be provided on the fatal collision and the related traffic diversions in due course as more information becomes available.”

Update 5.11pm: A Parliamentary Registry spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Police Service is advising the public that traffic diversions are currently in effect near Heron Bay Primary School on Middle Road in Southampton due to a fatal collision that occurred around 3:10pm today.

“Details are limited at this time. However, the scene is being processed by the relevant police personnel. Until further notice voters in Constituency 30, Southampton East Central, that intend on driving to their polling station at the school are advised to take South Road and either turn down Lighthouse Road or travel through the Fairmont Southampton Resort property to access Heron Bay Primary School via Middle Road.

“The BPS will provide an update on the collision and the related traffic diversions in due course as more information becomes available.

“Voters are reminded that polling stations will close at 8.00pm. Every voter must show identification to vote. Acceptable forms of ID are a commonwealth passport, a Bermuda driver’s licence, a Special Persons Card, and Voters Identification Card.”

Update 6.42pm: A police spokesperson said, “Around 3:10pm Tuesday, July 18th police and first responders were dispatched to a reported two vehicle collision involving a truck and a motorcycle on Middle Road in Southampton near Heron Bay Primary School.

“The motorcyclist, believed to be a 21-year-old Southampton woman, was seriously injured and rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance. However, she was later pronounced dead.

“No further information regarding the deceased will be provided, pending notification of her next of kin.

“At last check around 6pm today, the scene was still being processed by the relevant police personnel and traffic diversions in the area remained in place.

“Therefore until further notice voters in today’s General Election for Constituency 30, Southampton East Central, that intend on driving to their polling station at the school this evening are advised to take South Road and either turn down Lighthouse Road or travel through the Fairmont Southampton Resort property to access Heron Bay Primary School via Middle Road.

“The patience and cooperation of the motoring public is appreciated at this time and an update on traffic diversions in the area will be provided in due course.

“A full investigation into the eighth road fatality for this year is underway and any witnesses are asked to contact Constable Walter Jackson on 247-1230 or e-mail wjackson@bps.bm.”

“The motorcyclist, believed to be a 21 year old Southampton woman, was seriously injured and rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance.
