Shelly Bay Beach Structure To Be Demolished
The developer of the Shelly Bay Beach House is “unable to complete the redevelopment” and the “remaining structure is now deemed unsafe, and in the interests of public safety is expected to be demolished in the upcoming week,” the Ministry of Public Works said.
The Ministry said, “The Ministry of Public Works is advising that the developer of the Shelly Bay Beach House was unable to complete the redevelopment of the property.
“The Ministry has advised that the remaining structure is now deemed unsafe, and in the interests of public safety is expected to be demolished in the upcoming week.
“In that regard, area residents, Shelly Bay Beach/park patrons and the motoring public are being advised that in preparation for the demolition there will be increased construction activity near the Beach House. There will also be the likelihood of traffic delays to accommodate the demolition works.
“As a public safety note, motorists and pedestrians are encouraged to use care and caution when travelling through the Shelly Bay area.
“As a final note, the Ministry advised that conceptual plans for a replacement facility are being designed for presentation and consultation with area parliamentary representatives and members of the public.”
And the developer is paying for it right?
I hope so and he should be made to pay all the others that bid the project the money they spent to bid the project. I can only guess they spent tens of thousands of there hard earned money and got nothing in return. This is PS if you ask me
Silly comment it’s called a tendering process.
Am I the only person thinking that the developers decided after the election NOT to make the investment they had planned to make under the OBA? Just like a some people that were looking to buy homes before the election and are no longer interested in owning real estate here?
And regarding cost of tearing down? Probably a lot cheaper than what they would have lost had they continued with the (bad) investment.
I could be wrong though.
From what i read, the developer was willing to cover the cost as long as the lease reflected that, however the government said no. So it sounds as if the developer has backed out and the government will be doing something instead.
There’s a new Sheriff in town.
And he’s name Col.Burch.
Back to destroying business already (if what you infer is true).
You must be so proud.
American’s Cup is over!!!!!!!
Yep….he has a lot of scores to settle. This is just the beginning.
Area plp representatives who were against any development previously are now gung ho to develop
The new Government have promised transparency so let’s see what they do particularly with the parking issue
The way I remember it they wanted no development unless it included valet parking.
Not true most of the dissent was about the developer taking a large part of the playground for parking.
I’m not surprised. I pass it every day and I’ve thought ‘What are they possibly going to do with that?’ because it looks a complete disaster, like the whole thing is going to cave in at any moment. I just couldn’t see how they were going to ‘renovate’ it.
No it’s a cost to US the taxpayer
Don’t be fooled by change in Govt.
Not fair to all those other companies that spent tens of thousands to bid the project and not only not get the tender but see this happen after all these years. What a total waste of time and money.
How do you think the developer feels? all their time and money gone as well.
The PLP will now award the contract for a new concession/development to an insider, and it will include destruction of the little mangrove swamp, and for some reason… so many that protested a few years ago about the same thing will be just fine with it this time around
Its called Karma
You spelled hypocrisy wrong.
And it’s!
Too bad the guy u “think” karma is happening to, still doesnt struggle to get by day to day. How u making out oj? Lol. Does it hurt when u think?
Spot on
Is the developer pulling out? Who is designing the new facility ? What parameters are being considered ?
Will this be a Ministry design or is it being put out to bid as a design build following Ministry conceptualizations?
If it is for us by us it will be fine that’s the new motto don’t hear the usual suspects whining
Let’s just hope that Clay House is next! THAT IS A DISASTER WAITING TO HAPPEN!!! LONG OVER DUE!
PLP doing what they do best. Knocking stuff down.
And Ill give you three guesses as to whose yellow machines are diong the knocking!!
Who got that contract?
