89,830 Tonnes Of Waste Collected In 2016
The amount of waste collected totaled 89,830 tonnes in 2016 which is a 7.47% increase over the 83,590 tonnes collected in 2015, according to the recently released 2017 Environmental Statistics Compendium from the Department of Statistics
The report said, “In 2016, the amount of waste collected totaled 89,830 tonnes. This represents an increase of 7.47% over the 83,590 tonnes collected in 2015.
“In 2016, 1,600 tonnes of waste was recycled, 18,000 tonnes was composted, 60,230 tonnes was incinerated to generate electricity and 10,000 tonnes was landfilled.
“There were 123 container loads of materials recycled in 2015. Sixteen container loads of special waste items were processed and exported for the United States recycling marke. Bermuda exported 600,000 pounds of hazardous waste in 2016.”

This is great information. This is a good indication that the economy is doing well. Once we pass 90 Tonnes the economy will be truly on its way to recovery.
Can the increase be attributed to the additional bodies on-island training and working for the America’s Cup?
How come they can’t release how much trash was desposed of in 2017?
