Sol Petroleum Bermuda Limited [Sol] has confirmed that at approximately 8:00am this morning [Jan 23] there was a “release of an estimated four barrels of heavy fuel oil from one of the pipelines at the St. Georges Terminal.”

“Sol immediately ceased use of the pipeline, isolated and stopped the leak successfully. Sol activated its Incident Command Team to control the situation and commenced the clean-up process immediately,” the company said.

“The incident was reported promptly to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources [DENR], which joined the team at the facility to support the management of the situation.

“The team of Sol and contractors, in collaboration with the DENR continued the clean-up and product recovery process from the area at the terminal adjacent to the shoreline and inshore waters.

“Sol is grateful for the support given by Bermuda Yacht Services and the Fisheries Section of DENR who assisted with the on-water recovery process. Sol confirms that it is working actively to ensure that the appropriate remedies and precautionary measures are implemented.

“A thorough assessment and comprehensive repair of the line has been organised. Further steps will be coordinated and implemented by the local and corporate teams of Sol following the established RBCA guidelines of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.”
