‘Bermuda Shorts’ Searches Up 80% In Norway
After Bermuda’s Winter Olympian Dr. Tucker Murphy took part in the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang on February 9 while wearing traditional Bermuda shorts, the cross-country skier has sparked curiosity about the unlikely winter attire, causing Google searches for “Bermuda shorts” to spike by 80% in Norway.
Google’s official Twitter account tweeted the fact to its 20 million followers, saying, “Team Bermuda’s shorts had Norway dreaming of sunny weather. Searches for Bermuda shorts spiked by 80% in the Nordic country.”
Dr. Murphy will compete in the Men’s 15K Free Individual Start cross-country ski event. He is accompanied by his Coach Pepa Miloucheva, and Assistant Coach/Waxer Jeff Shaw, as well as Chef de Mission Lawrence [Mike] Murphy, and Sean Field-Lament, who will be representing the Executive Board of the BOA.
The Winter Olympics will be held through February 25, marking the eighth Winter Olympics that Bermuda has participated in.
Dr. Murphy is the first Bermudian to compete in Olympic skiing, and the third Winter Olympian from the island following Simon Payne and Patrick Singleton.
