Video: “Taking Off” On Air Service Development
Skyport has released the seventh episode of ‘Taking Off’, a video series with host Mikaela Pearman that highlights the airport redevelopment project, with this week’s video highlighting the Air Service Development.
Speaking in the seventh episode, Mikaela Pearman said, “Did you know that every year, representatives from Skyport, and the Bermuda Tourism and Airport Authorities, travel to global airline conferences to promote Bermuda?
“It’s all about air service development, ie getting new airlines to offer new routes to Bermuda to bring even more people to our beautiful island.
“The latest one was Routes Americas, held in Quito, Ecuador. The conferences are held in Asia, Europe, Africa and the Americas with a focus entirely on aviation route development.
“Here, we get in front of the right people armed with the right statistics to show why more airlines should fly more flights to Bermuda.
“These sales pitches are sort of like planting seeds. Through hard work, they can often lead to more fruitful discussions later and eventually – a new flight! And for those flights to do well, we need bums in seats! That’s why the BTA and Government are such important partners.
“Ultimately, for Bermuda to be successful, we need to generate more passengers and more revenue for our airport; and one of the obvious ways to do this is through air service development.”
