Marine Expo Postponed Due To Weather

April 5, 2018

Due to inclement weather this weekend, organisers have decided to postpone the third annual St. George’s Marine Expo.

The event, which was due to be hosted this Sunday, April 8th, will now be held the following week on Sunday, April 15th from 11am until 6pm at Ordinance Island.

Hosted by Bermuda Economic Development Corporation [BEDC] along with Title Sponsor RUBiS Energy Bermuda, the annual family-friendly event celebrates the Island’s maritime culture and showcases the many businesses, organizations and opportunities involved in the local marine industry.

According to Ray Lambert, BEDC’s Economic Development Officer for St. George’s: “After much consideration, we have decided to postpone the upcoming St. George’s Marine Expo until next weekend, Sunday, April 15th.

“Over the past few days, we have closely monitored the Island’s forecast and have also spoke to experts at the Bermuda Weather Service and Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences [BIOS]. Both have advised that their models suggest there will be moderate to strong winds and possibly thunder on Sunday.

“We believe the weather will affect the overall experience of our many supporters. Most importantly, it is a safety concern for the vendors with their tents, the boats and also for the public.”

While the change may affect a few of the vendors, the BEDC sees this as an opportunity for those who were travelling over the Easter holiday, and not able to join this weekend, to come out next Sunday.

Mr. Lambert confirmed it is not too late for interested vendors to participate in the 3rd Annual St. George’s Marine Expo. Interested sponsors and participants can contact 704-9057 or rlambert@bedc.bm for further information.
