Sailing: Invitational Race Week Gets Underway
The first day of the Bermuda International Invitational Race Week [BIIRW] got underway on Saturday with blustery winds from the SSE allowing for only two of the scheduled five races to take place.
Winds were 18 – 20 kts with gusts to 23kts when the Race Officer, Somers Kempe, flew the ‘rest of races abandoned for the day’ signal and sent the fleet of four ashore.
Both races were won by Canadian Jay Cross, sailing with Dirk Kneulman and Andreas Josenhans. After a second place in race 1, Bermuda’s Tim Patton suffered boat damage and was unable to start the second race.
Racing continues on Sunday April 29 for Etchells, J105s and the IOD classes.
