Smith Wins Silver At BUCS Championships

May 22, 2018

Bermuda’s Tyler Smith competed at the British Universities and Colleges Sport [BUCS] Triathlon Standard Distance Championships in Southport, England.

Smith finished 2nd picking up the Silver Medal out of 133 competitors in the Men’s race with a time of 1:51:08 finishing 25 seconds behind the winner Matthew Nelson who clocked 1:50:43.

Smith was 3rd out of the water on the 1500m Swim with a time of 17:01, just seconds behind the leaders.

Smith then completed the 40km Bike course with a time of 58:29 which was a great result for a non-drafting race and given that Smith wasn’t riding a Time Trial Bike.

Smith then clocked a 10km Run time of 32:41, which was the fastest run of the day and a Personal Best.

It was an excellent result to cap off his school year where he’s in the midst of final exams in his 2nd year studying Sports Science and Physiology at the University of Leeds.

This also kicks off the summer phase of Smith’s season which will see him competing in various races throughout Europe as well as representing Bermuda at the Central American and Caribbean [CAC] Games that run from July 19th to August 3rd in Barranquilla, Columbia, the Men’s and Women’s Standard/Olympic Distance Race is on August 1st.
