Warwick Academy Win Badminton Tournament
Warwick Academy dominated all competition as they swept all four divisions at the Bermuda School Sports Federation Middle School Girls Badminton Tournament.
Asia Leigh Hollis got things rolling for Warwick Academy when she defeated Isabella White from Somersfield Academy in straight games to win the Under 13 Singles Title. Hollis defeated Saltus Grammar Schools Tamara Leach 11-4 in their Semi-Final, while White overcame Warwick’s Adriana Argent 11-7 in the other Semi-Final.
Megan Johnston won the Over 13 Girls Title after a three game battle with Tatum Brewer from Somersfield Academy. Brewer won first game 11-8, before Johnston leveled the match by winning the second game 11-5. Fatigue set in for Brewer as she fell 11-0 in the deciding set.
All four Warwick players finished pool play undefeated but couldn’t all reach the Semi-Finals. Johnston defeated Megan Hands from Mount Saint Agnes 11-2 in their Quarter-Final. Connie Betts then defeated MSA’s second seed Ashlee Furtado 11-8, with Ellie Richmond defeating MSA’s Ashley Horseman 11-1. Warwick second seed Tayla Horan was the only Warwick player to suffer a Quarter-Final defeat when she fell 11-6 to Brewer. Johnston defeated Betts 11-4 in their Semi-Final while Brewer defeated Richmond 11-9 in the other Semi-Final.
Hollis teamed up with Argent to win the Under 13 Girls Doubles tournament with an 11-9, 11-9 win over the Saltus duo of Honor Minors and Cardwell. The Hollis and Argent duo reached the final after defeating Somersfield Academy’s Sienna Bonanno and Josephine Duerden 12-10. The Saltus pair reached the final with a 11-8 win over the other Somersfield team of White and Maya Rajeh
Johnston teamed up with Horan to win the Over 13 Girls Doubles Title in a two game final win over Brewer and Lindsay Smith. The champions defeated MSA’s Hand and Furtado 11-4 in their Semi-Final, while the Somersfield duo defeated Warwick’s second team of Richmond and Betts 11-7 to reach the Final.
