AFP Bermuda Appoint Executive Team Members
The Bermuda Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals [AFP] has appointed its 2018 executive, which is tasked with “supporting its growing membership, training and development, and maintaining their affiliation with AFP International.”
A spokesperson said, “The recently appointed team consists of Gordon Johnson [Chair], Tammalita Astwood [Deputy Chair], Ann Spencer-Arscott [Deputy Chair, Membership], Kelly Hunt [Communications], Jane Vickers [Member at Large] and, Jennifer Burland Adams [Past Chair and Treasurer].
“The new team is pleased to build on the hard work and accomplishments of founding Chair and the first Bermudian ever to qualify as a Certified Fundraising Executive [CFRE], Jennifer Burland Adams. Mrs. Burland Adams accomplished this groundbreaking work of establishing our AFP Bermuda Chapter while managing a very successful capital campaign ‘Leading the Way’ at The Bermuda High School for Girls to establish its Innovation Centre and Arts Wing.”
Mrs. Burland Adams said, “It has been a pleasure, and something I’m very proud of, being involved with the establishment of AFP Bermuda, and working directly with so many individuals and organisations committed to developing ethical fundraising and deepening their knowledge of best practices in Bermuda.
“There are many people who worked with me to start AFP Bermuda, and it is appropriate to highlight and thank Ms. Theresa Hall, who has completed her Board service and who helped with our incorporation, governance and secretarial functions. I am looking forward to staying involved in my role as Past Chair and Treasurer, and welcome Gordon Johnson to the role of Chair.”
“AFP Bermuda is committed to investing in and supporting the mentoring, training and development of professionals involved in raising funds in Bermuda – these individuals are often in specific roles such as Director of Advancement/Fundraising, Consultant, or blended roles such as Executive Director, CEO, Managing Director, Trustee, Board Member and/or Volunteer.
“We are fortunate to have some very experienced fundraising talent supporting well run services in Bermuda, and we are encouraging young Bermudians to consider this as a career opportunity as they look for careers full of meaning and impact.
“We are interested in answering the question: From where will the next generation of Bermuda’s ethical fundraisers come? AFP Bermuda has an obligation to promote and encourage the involvement of young people in philanthropy, and the profession of ethical fundraising. We look forward to working with community partners to encourage and support a pathway for more of our youth to be involved in philanthropy.
“Many not-for-profit organisations depend on philanthropy to be sustainable. Having the knowledge, skills and wisdom in-house is a growing career opportunity in Bermuda for Bermudians as evidenced by the three full time positions which have been advertised already in 2018.
“AFP Bermuda looks forward to supporting Bermuda’s non profits in 2018 and beyond.”
