Bermuda Artist Amaya Previews New Song

June 14, 2018

Bermudian singer Amaya has previewed a new song, saying “I feel like, as a Bermudian artist, we have to recognize Bermuda’s talent, whether we sing, dance, ride bikes, or build things.”

Amaya said, “I was born and raised in Bermuda. I started singing when I was 3 years old; my mom used to sing in a group called Choral Dynamics – my family is very musically talented.

“My mom would have me sing in Hamilton SDA church. I sang for several talent shows all over the United States and also in England, where I went to collage to receive my degree in vocal performance and song writing. I also did Bermuda Idol in 2011.

“I would like to be a part of the entertainment industry. I have been an underground singer for years, but thanks to Key West and Xodia, they have definitely pushed me to do better and to find myself, also thanks to friends and family for their support.

“The reason why I choose this cover is because I had people telling me that I had to be something else in order to even be a singer also I had people telling me give it up because there are no opportunities in Bermuda and I feel like as a Bermudian artist we have to recognize Bermuda’s talent whether we sing, dance, ride bikes, or build things; we have to recognize them because that’s what makes Bermuda unique.

“Tourists don’t want to come to a island to see the same stuff they can see in their own country. As the great island that we are, we have to stand out and show the world just how different our island is. We are the great island of Bermuda and here’s where I stand.”

“My plans musically are to continue to sing. I have written and recorded a lot of songs, but I felt like they were not ready to be released. I am a perfectionist when it comes to music and I love honesty. I take criticism very well and I welcome it.

“I like to have ‘Simon Cowells’ in my corner because I know my family is not going to have me looking crazy, but in all honesty I just want to do more with my voice and the talent God gave to me, so I might as well share my story and my love for music with my the best place in the world – Bermuda.

“I also want to encourage others who have talents on the side to go out and show them off. Yes, some people might look at you different, but you and the rest of the talents on this beautiful island were made to be different. So go out show it off.

“The greater we are, the greater our home is, because then people will come to this island not just to see its beauty, but to also see the natives and what we bring.”
