Bermuda Softball League Action Continues

Sunglass & Watch shop had the upset of the week in the recent Bermuda Softball League Action.

As one of the weaker B teams, it slipped past A Division’s Blue Wahoos 7 to 6. Shane Matchett hit a three-run homer to spot Blue Wahoos to an early lead in the first. Sunglass came back to knot the score at three in the bottom of the inning as both teams battled back and forth.

Trevor Corday [3-3] scored the winning run in the bottom of the sixth on a Maddy Brash single. Steven Simons [2-2] homered for Wahoos, and Sam Outerbridge was 2-3 from the leadoff spot. Matt Ktazsch [3-4, Derrick Holmes and Jeff Morash [2-3] were the top hitters for Blue Wahoos.

The week’s other upset saw B side Chubb Kings down the A Division’s Paraquet Flyers 13 to 9. Paraquet is now 3-5 in the A Division while Chubb is 6-3 in the B.

The other A-League versus B league contest went as expected as undefeated Docksiders hammered FIU – Scared Hitless 29 to 5. Docksiders are now 8-0.

Platano Power now has a four-game win streak after beating Hakuna Matata Charters 9 to 4. The victory helped move Platano past Hakuna in the B Division standings. Hakuna is now 4-4, and Platano is 5-4. Jeffrey Topia, Albert Acevedo and Stalin Lopez all homered in the triumph for Platano. Hakuna scored two in the first on a Shannon Raynor [3-3] homer, and two more in the third before their bats grew cold for the rest of the game. Preston Mallory was 2-3, and Troy Hall Jr was 2-4 as Hakuna only had nine hits.

Team Smokey pulled into a fourth-place tie with Beach Bums in the B Division when it won a head-to-head contest against its rivals 15 to 13. Both teams are 4-5.

The Corporation of Hamilton forfeited to the B Division’s top club, X-Bats. X-bats lead the league by two points with a game in hand. The Corporation is one of four teams still searching for their first victory.

The C Division is now wide open with three teams contending for the title. Buffaloes beat Raggamuffins 17 to 8. The victory pulled Buffaloes even with Ragga in the win column and one back of Super Express.
Raggamuffins came back to shutout Shooters 20-0 later in the week.

Super Express raced out to an early lead and had a mercy victory over Deloitte, 20 to 3.

The only women’s division contest saw top club Hardknockz beat PHC Zebras 18 to 3.

Sea Venture Mini Me’s had a walkover win over Athene Warriors in the Corporate Division. Mini Me’s now has a four-point advantage over the Warriors. Butterfield & Vallis Sliders had a default victory over KPMG in the division’s only other contest this week.

There are three weeks left in the regular season before the playoffs. All games are played at Michael Preece Stadium at Bernard Park on Mondays through Thursdays starting at 6 pm.
