Court: Cruise Ship Passenger Fined $1,300
A cruise ship passenger has been fined $1,300 for importing a cannabinoid oil and what she apparently thought were ecstasy tablets into Bermuda.
Rene Rosengart was stopped by customs officers on July 11 as she got off the cruise ship in Dockyard.
The 41-year-old was found to be in possession an electric cigarette containing a banned cannabinoid oil.
Customs officers then searched her cabin and discovered a container with pills inside it.
Rosengart tried to swallow the tablets before they could be seized and a struggle with customs officers ensued.
At Magistrates Court this morning the New York resident pled guilty to charges including importing a banned cannabinoid oil into Bermuda and obstructing customs officers from seizing the pills.
The court heard that the pills that were seized by customs officers were not in fact ecstasy, although Rosengart had apparently believed they were ecstasy.
She apologised to the court for her actions and was told she would have to pay the fine in full before leaving the island.
