Former Premier Dr. Ewart Brown will receive the Senator Edward Brooke award from Alumni of Howard University on Martha’s Vineyard on Tuesday August 21st.
Dr. Brown, who has always been a stalwart supporter of Howard, is being recognised for his “all-round support of the university particularly in the recruitment of medical students.”
“I am humbled and excited to receive this award which is named after an iconic Howard alum.,” Dr. Brown said.
The former Premier has been the recipient of others honours from Howard, including an Honorary doctorate in 2009.
According to Howard’s website, the award is named after Senator Edward Brooke in “recognition of barriers he broke with his landmark elections to the office of Attorney General and the U.S. Senate in the State of Massachusetts. Senator Brooke, a 1941 graduate of Howard University, was the first African-American elected to the U.S Senate since Reconstruction.”
