MacKrill, Schrum Recognised In Powerwomen
Partners Alison MacKrill and Vanessa Schrum from law firm Appleby have been recognised in Citywealth’s 2018 report ‘IFC Powerwomen Top 200’.
The IFC Powerwomen Top 200 list focuses on successful professionals in the global private wealth industry and celebrates and unites powerful women. It recognises women of achievement who are trailblazers in their field, helping to promote business excellence in their home jurisdiction and consolidating the reputations of the financial services industry globally.
Appleby said, “Alison MacKrill, Group Partner and Local Practice Group Head of the Private Client & Trusts department in the Guernsey office, joined Appleby in 2017. Alison was called to the Bermuda bar in 2000 and has worked in Guernsey for the last fifteen years, advising clients in various offshore jurisdictions. Alison’s broad legal experience covers trust advisory work, employee share schemes and commercial trusts, as well as advising on regulatory matters.

“Alison has previously been awarded the STEP Founder’s Award for Outstanding Achievement and the Corporate Livewire – Guernsey Private Client Lawyer of the Year award. She has also consistently been honoured by Citywealth and International Who’s Who Legal. Alison is a past chairman of the Guernsey branch of STEP and is currently the Guernsey contributor for the publication.”
She commented on the recognition, saying, “I am honoured to have been included in this list for the fifth year alongside such an influential group of women who promote business excellence both locally and across their global networks.”
Appleby said, “Vanessa Schrum is a Partner and Local Practice Group Head of the Private Client & Trusts department in Bermuda. Vanessa has experience in a wide range of trust and estate planning matters.
“She regularly advises on the use of Bermuda private and commercial trust structures [including purpose trusts and unit trusts], pension trusts, trust restructuring often with a multi-jurisdictional element. Vanessa is also an expert in the administration of complex and large estates and all areas of probate and equity matters in Bermuda, including applications to the Supreme Court of Bermuda.
“Vanessa has been awarded many professional accolades to date. She has been recognised in both the 2017 and 2018 Chambers Global High Net Worth guide, was named ‘Woman of the Year’ for the Leadership, Professional Services category at the 2017 Citywealth Power Women Awards, and featured in the ‘Women in Business Law’ 2017 guide as one of the leading Trusts and Estates practitioners in the world.
