Ministry Advisory On Tropical Storm Florence

The Emergency Measures Organisation [EMO] continues to closely monitor the track of Tropical Storm Florence and the Ministry of National Security pointed out that “the south shore will experience high surf conditions associated with TS Florence, and the public is encouraged to use caution on the beaches this weekend”.

A Government spokesperson said, “This afternoon [Sept. 7] the Ministry of National Security provided the following advisory as it relates to Tropical Storm Florence.

“The Ministry reminded that the Emergency Measures Organisation [EMO] continues to closely monitor the track of Tropical Storm Florence and if required, the EMO is prepared to meet on Monday.

“As of the 12 noon update Tropical Storm Florence is 812nm ESE of Bermuda moving at 7kts as a Tropical Storm. It is expected to strengthen into a hurricane again in the next 48 hours as it encounters weaker vertical shear. The next Bermuda Weather Service [BWS] update on the system will be at 6.00 p.m.

“The Ministry however takes this opportunity to confirm that all public services are currently operating as normal, inclusive of public transportation and Government offices.

“Additionally schools are expected to resume as scheduled on September 10.

“As a public safety note, the south shore will experience high surf conditions associated with TS Florence, and the public is encouraged to use caution on the beaches this weekend.

“The Ministry notes that if required, the EMO is prepared to convene a meeting on Monday.

“The Ministry also stressed that the public should adhere to official information from official sources regarding all public services, such as the BWS, the EMO, the Ministry of National Security and the Department of Communications. As a note, the Emergency Broadcast Station on 100.1fm is operational.”
