New Equipment For Gymnastics Association

October 17, 2018

The Bermuda Olympic Association [BOA] announced that the Bermuda Gymnastics Association [BGA], in its capacity as the National Sports Governing Board for Gymnastics, has been able to purchase a regulation Olympic trampoline and power tumbling track, which have been installed at the BGA’s facility in St. David’s.

The purchase of the new equipment was funded through the BOA’s partnership programme with the Pan American Sports Organization [PASO] that makes new equipment available to qualifying national sports federations free of charge.

Trampoline has been an Olympic sport since 2000, but without regulation equipment available, the BGA has, until this point, focused on the development of elite athletes only in the disciplines of men’s and women’s artistic gymnastics and rhythmic gymnastics.

Through this equipment grant, the BGA is on track to recognise two more competitive disciplines by 2020: trampoline and parkour.

Kehinde George, BGA President, said “With the support of the BOA, we were able to acquire world-class trampoline and tumbling equipment that will enable us to expand the range of programmes we offer through our facility in St. David’s.

“Not only is trampoline a competitive discipline on its own—and one in which we hope to have athletes competing internationally—but also enhances training for athletes who are focused on artistic and rhythmic gymnastics in the areas of balance, flexibility, spatial awareness and the development of core strength.

“We would like to thank the BOA for their ongoing support of and interest in the BGA and gymnastics in Bermuda.”

Judy Simons, BOA President said, “The BOA is focused on helping our young athletes from all sports along on their journeys to success.

“Being able to assist the BGA in upgrading its training facility with new equipment that will enhance Bermudian gymnasts’ training, as well as broaden the range of disciplines in which our young people can participate and compete is truly gratifying. We’d like to thank the BGA for the great work they do with our young athletes and in our community.”
