Southside, Somerset Front Offices To Reopen

The ‘front counter service’ of the Southside Police Station and the Somerset Police Station will be reopened as of Thursday, November 1st, set to operate seven days a week from 8am – 8pm.

Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police James Howard said, “I would like to take this opportunity to inform the Community that the ‘front counter service’ of both the Southside Police Station and the Somerset Police Station will be reopened as of Thursday 1st of November 2018.

“The hours of operation will commence at 8:00am until 8:00pm seven days a week. Hamilton Police Station will be the only station with front office service, 24hrs a day 7 days a week.

“You would be aware that the front office service at both the Southside and Somerset Police Stations were suspended in 2016 due to the low volume of enquires being made by members of the public at those locations.

“The Bermuda Police Service under the command of Commissioner Corbishley is reviewing not only the organizational structure but looking at the most efficient way to respond to public demand when it comes to the service we are expected to provide. The organization is looking at developing its current Community Policing Model and the reopening of the stations is part of that plan.

“A Meeting was held with all Station Duty Officers this week to discuss the plans. An assessment of the volume of enquires will be completed within six months of the opening with a view in identifying a long term strategy.”
