79-Year-Old Pedestrian Injured, Driver Arrested
A 79-year-old female pedestrian is in stable condition after being “struck by a taxi” while crossing the road on Cobbs Hill Road yesterday evening [Oct 31], and the taxi driver “was subsequently arrested on suspicion of impaired driving,” the police confirmed.
A police spokesperson said, “Around 8pm Wednesday, October 31st police and fellow first responders were dispatched to a reported collision involving a pedestrian on Cobbs Hill Road in Warwick near the junction with the Railway Trail.
“It appears that a 79-year-old Warwick woman was crossing the road to attend Cobbs Hill Gospel Chapel when she was struck by a taxi driven along Cobbs Hill Road.
“The injured pedestrian was transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance and at last check this morning [November 1st] was listed in stable condition on a general ward. There were no other injuries reported.
“The taxi driver, said to be a 52-year-old Paget woman, was subsequently arrested on suspicion of impaired driving. Inquiries continue and any witnesses are asked to call the main police telephone number 295-0011.”
