Bermuda Thanksgiving Classic Gets Underway

November 24, 2018

The Bermuda Thanksgiving Basketball Classic hosted by Wolfpack Elite Basketball returned to the Berkeley Institute Gymnasium on Friday and continues today with several more matches involving local and foreign youth.

The event is sponsored by the Bermuda Tourism Authority [BTA] as a means of offering the Island’s ballers exposure for their talents that they might attract interest leading to scholar/athlete opportunities and other basketball related life-furthering possibleness.

Three overseas high-school teams are contesting the Bermuda squad and the four teams did not disappoint spectators on the opening day with 288 points scored over two games.

Bermuda’s select group of players found the going tough in the opening contest as they took on Crossroads Christian out of the United States’ ‘Second City’ of Chicago, Illinois with the local lads receiving a baptism by fire in being ‘dunked’ 86-24 by the Christians.

DJ Ellis led Crossroads with a game high 20 points, including his hitting on four three pointer. Jermayne Dears tallied six points for Bermuda as the team’s high scorer.

Game two produced 134 points with Boca Raton Christian High School from Florida picking up a 89 – 65 win over-time win over Camperdown High School from Jamaica.

The Thanksgiving Basketball Classic is the brainchild of Chris Crumpler, who is the Director of Wolfpack Elite Basketball.

Matches continue today with the conclusion of inter-pool play — which guarantees each team participation in at least three matches – before moving to a single-elimination, knock-out championship round to decide the overall winners.
