Video: Remembrance Day Ceremony & Parade

November 11, 2018

Today [Nov 11] marks the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War, and a series of activities have been planned to mark the end of the conflict, which claimed the lives of millions of people from across the world, including Bermudian soldiers.

Government House previously said that a recorded total of 544 Bermudians served in World War One, from the Bermuda Volunteer Rifle Corps, the Bermuda Contingent Royal Garrison Artillery [formed from the Bermuda Militia Artillery] or soldiers who joined the Allied Forces independently.

“Of those 544 Bermudians, 53 were killed in action; 15 were wounded; 14 were taken prisoner of war; 4 were missing in action and 19 died of disease or wounds,” Government House said.

The live video replay below shows the Wreath Laying at the War Memorial on the Cabinet grounds in Hamilton, which took place at 9.30am this morning, and is one of the events taking place today.

The Remembrance Day Parade on Front Street will start at 10.30am, the Island-wide Bell Ringing will take place at 3.00pm, and the Beacon Lighting Ceremony at Government House will take place at 4.45pm.

All events are open to the public, and Bernews will also stream the Remembrance Day Parade at 10.30am, which serves to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of WWI, and also to pay respects to the Bermudians who served in both World Wars and other conflicts, many of whom did not return home after making the ultimate sacrifice.

We will update this article with the live video of the Parade once it gets underway.

Update: The live broadcast has concluded, and the one hour replay is below
