100 Year Armistice Day Anniversary On Nov 11

The Minister of National Security Wayne Caines is encouraging the public’s participation in 100 Year Armistice Day Anniversary on November 11.

A Government spokesperson said, “The Minister of National Security Wayne Caines is encouraging the public’s participation in the upcoming events commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the end of the First World War.

“The public will be aware that leading up to the 11 November Armistice Day Holiday, also known as Remembrance Day, a series of activities have been planned by various organizations.”

Minister of National Security Wayne Caines said, “Bermuda will join other nations around the world in recognizing the 100th Anniversary of Armistice Day. The public will be aware that on 11 November, 1918, at 11.00 a.m., World War 1 ended. This day now commemorates the signing of the resolution between the Allies and Germany – a moment that changed the course of world history.

“Bermuda had veterans and volunteers who served with the Allied forces in WWI, and we are obliged to remember and honour their sacrifice and their service.”

“As a reminder, events commemorating the 100th anniversary will include:

“November 4, 10.30 a.m. ~ Royal Artillery Association Memorial Service and Wreath Laying at Town Square, St. Georges

“November 10, 4.00 p.m. ~ Commemoration of the Centenary and re-dedication of the Alice & Meredith stained-glass window, situated in the Warrior’s Chapel, Anglican Cathedral, City of Hamilton.

“November 11 ~ Remembrance Day Events:

• 9.00 a.m. ~ Bermuda Sea Cadets service to honour ‘HMS Jarvis Bay’ at Albouy’s Point

• 9.30 a.m. ~ The War Memorial Wreath Laying on Cabinet grounds east of the Cenotaph at the War Memorial

• 10.30 a.m. ~ Remembrance Day Parade along Front Street, Hamilton

• 3:00 p.m. ~ Island-wide Bell Ringing

• 4.45 p.m. ~ Beacon Lighting Ceremony on the North Lawn at Government House

“All events are open to the public.”
