Fly High With Cirque du Nutcracker Holiday Show
Experience the traditional holiday story ‘The Nutcracker’ in a whole new way with a special aerial performance of the classic Christmas story by the Lotus’ aerial arts programme,
Unlike the traditional ballet show, the production and unique choreography by aerialist and former dancer, Sophia Cannonier, mean that most of the show takes place in the air, rather than on stage.
The cast features students from Lotus’ aerial arts programme, who have been featured recently during this season’s Boat Parade and the Christmas Parade in Hamilton.
While the narrative of the show is reminiscent of the two-act original, it’s highly tailored to a Bermudian audience with cast members such as “Rock Island Coffee” and places such as “The Island of Treats” in the Bermuda Triangle.
Sophia Cannonier was classically trained in the Russian Style of Ballet by Madam Patricia Gray, MBE in Bermuda. Upon relocating to New York City at age 16, Sophia joined Arthur Mitchell’s Dance Theatre of Harlem. From there, she toured the world, and has danced for the Queen of England and as a ballerina for the ‘Queen of Soul’, Aretha Franklin.
