Junior Golf Association Fecchio Cup Final Result

December 23, 2018

Kenny Leseur is the 2018 Bermuda Junior Golf Association Fecchio Cup Champion and Oliver Betschart is the Fecchio Cup Red Tee Champion.

A spokesperson said, “Unfortunately the weather is the headline today with the worst of the wind and rain coming in right as the final round of the Championship was due to commence, resulting in a cancellation of the final round.

“Kenny Leseur’s excellent play over the first two days was enough to give him a nine stroke victory for his third Fecchio Cup title, a feat made all the more impressive given he is still only 14 years old.

“It was great to have Kenny back from school and see his game continuing to develop. Spencer Young’s two rounds in the 70’s were enough for a second place finish, an encouraging finish for a player looking to make a push towards college golf in a couple of years’ time.

“Oliver Betschart was the wire to wire winner in the Red Tee division, accumulating the most points in each of the two rounds for victory by seven points over Sa-Qui Robinson. At 10 years old, Oliver was one of the youngest players in the division but displayed maturity beyond his years to plot his way around the course and take the title.

“Sa-Qui showed that he will be a player to watch for the future, taking home the runner up trophy in just his first major tournament. The Stableford format for the Red Tee division worked out well – rewarding good play while not unduly penalizing bad holes, with scores at or higher than triple bogey equaling zero points, allowing players to pick up and move to the next hole.

“It will be exciting to see this group of young players develop over the next 6-8 years and push each other to new heights.

“The BJGA would like to acknowledge the contributions from Peitro and Jacqui Fecchio, and to say thank you for establishing this event over 35 years ago and continuing to support it each year.

“The partnership established between the BJGA and Port Royal and Ocean View golf courses continues to grow and it has been great to work with Mr Greg Maybury and his team across the two courses, not just this week but over the past 18 months.

“Walker Campbell and Mikus Ming, two recent BJGA graduates currently playing college golf at William & Mary and Tennessee State University, respectively, donated their time over their Christmas break to help out at the Fecchio Cup.

“Both Walker and Mikus will be playing events in South America in January representing Bermuda and the Bermuda Golf Association, along with Jarryd Dillas, and it was greatly appreciated by the BJGA and the kids playing to have them give their time and counsel to the next generation of junior golfers.”
