Video: Cruise Ship Breaks From Mooring Lines
[Updated] The Arcadia cruise ship ”broke her mooring lines during strong overnight winds” in Dockyard, according to a video posted online by the Port Bermuda webcam.
The video’s description says, “As seen live on www.PortBermudaWebcam.com. P&O cruise ship Arcadia broke her mooring lines during strong overnight winds at Dockyard Bermuda. The ship broke free at around 2:53am local time. She drifted backwards and sideways for a short time before the ship’s crew brought maneuvering power online. This is raw, unedited webcam video from that time frame.”
Update: A Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre spokesperson said, “BMOC receives a call from the passenger vessel Arcadia alongside at Heritage Wharf, advising they have parted mooring lines due to sudden increase in wind from a passing squall and are drifting off the berth.
“Having full propulsion and thruster power online shortly after lines parted, the Captain maneuvered and held the vessels head into the wind while local Tugs and Pilots were called out to assist, bringing the vessel safely alongside just after 7am.
” No injuries were reported with minimal damage to mooring bollards and gangway. Arcadia departed Bermuda early Monday afternoon bound for Nassau, Bahamas.”

Totally avoidable…
No one thought to add some more bow and spring lines for the weather that was in the forecast! It looked like it was tied up for 5 knots of wind.
Amateurs at best.
This could have ended up REALLY REALLY BAD!

Impressive insight there Jared. The rest of us struggle to even see any lines, yet you can tell us that what was there was insufficient and that the load ratings were exceeded.

I can see the lines explode…. this would suggest that ratings where exceeded. Turn up the quailty… you will see.
Bowlines , 1 by 1 explode under tension.

Finally Aft spring takes all and explodes also.
Looks like they were hauling in lines so they could maneuver. See the after spring and foresprings being hauled.
