Annual Memorial Moon Walk Set For Jan 21st

January 14, 2019

The 3rd Annual Friends of Hospice Memorial Moon Walk is scheduled for Monday, January 21st at 6pm, with the organisers saying that it “promises to be a spectacular sight with a rare ‘Super Blood Wolf Moon’ occurring in the early hours of that morning.”

“Friends of Hospice [FoH], the charity supporting Agape House, is hosting the walk, which provides an opportunity for those who have lost loved ones to come together in a spectacular setting and remember them,” the organisers said.

“The ‘Super Blood Wolf Moon’ is a rare occurance combining a supermoon – where the moon appears bigger and brighter than usual – and a blood moon – a total lunar eclipse which causes the moon to appear red.

“The ‘wolf moon’ is the name given to the full moon every January, and originates in Native American culture. The eclipse will occur in the early hours of Monday, January 21st.

“The walk begins from Chaplin Bay, Warwick and continues west, along the dunes to Horseshoe Bay and back to Chaplin Bay. Southampton Rangers Sports Club has kindly volunteered a team of members to act as guides along the route.”

Friends of Hospice volunteer Nicky Gurret, who helped start the FoH Memorial Moon Walk in 2017, said, “This is a wonderful way to spend an evening with nature, walking in what promises to be a most spectacular moonlight to reflect on the lives of one’s loved ones who have died and to support Agape House.”

Friends of Hospice Marketing, Volunteer & Programme Coordinator Angela Young, added, “We encourage all of those who have lost loved ones to come and join us for this special evening under the light of a spectacular moon.

“All proceeds from this event will be used to provide specialized therapies and programmes that help to enhance the quality of life for hospice patients and their loved ones.”
