BFA: Charter To Dominican Republic Not Viable

January 31, 2019

Bermuda will match up against the Dominican Republic in the Concacaf Nations League Qualifying match on Sunday, March 24 in the Dominican Republic, and the BFA said that while a charter flight wasn’t financially viable, they are working to secure an allotment of match tickets for anyone planning to travel to support the team.

A spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Football Association [BFA] wishes to inform all fans of the Bermuda Senior Men’s National Team and the public generally of the upcoming Concacaf Nations League Qualifying match versus the Dominican Republic.

The details of the match:

  • Date: March 24th, 2019
  • Kick-off: 8:00 p.m.
  • City: Santiago, Dominican Republic - Note: Airport Code – STI
  • Stadium: Estadio Cibao, Pontificia Universidad Catolica Madre y Maestra, Autopista Duarte, Santiago de los Caballeros 51000, and Republica Dominicana

“The BFA wishes to advise those planning to attend the match that attempts to organize a charter flight haven’t proved to be financially viable as the overall cost to secure the necessary charter flight, etc. was in excess of $170K which meant the ticket prices would be significantly higher than those charged by commercial airlines.

“Additionally, securing the charter flight meant that the BFA would have to pay the cost upfront. Thereafter, the flight would need to be sold out in the amount of 168 passengers. In the final analysis this was deemed too much of a financial risk considering the financial guarantees required.

“For those persons planning to travel to support the team the BFA is working to secure an allotment of match tickets for purchase from the Dominican Republic Football Association.

“To assist with securing an adequate supply of match tickets it is recommended that persons who wish to secure tickets to call the BFA Office at 295-2199 before February 28th to advise the number of tickets required.”
