BELCO Launches Kite Safety Poster Competition
As part of their annual kite campaign, BELCO is holding a Kite Safety Poster Competition, open to all P1 and P2 students. Students have until 5:00pm on April 1st to submit their kite safety posters to BELCO.
A spokesperson said, “Children in primary school years 1 and 2 have been learning about kite safety over the past month and now is their chance to show off what they have learned.
“BELCO Kiteman, Cornell Dunkley, has travelled to primary schools around the island to give a presentation about using electricity and flying kites safely. As part of this annual kite campaign, BELCO is holding a Kite Safety Poster Competition, open to all P1 and P2 students.
“Students have until 5:00pm on April 1st to submit their kite safety posters to BELCO. The posters must be on 8.5” x 14” US legal size paper, which is available at BELCO’s reception desk for students who need it.
“The winner of the Best Overall Poster will be invited, along with his or her class, to BELCO for a reception and photo with BELCO Bird. Additionally, this student’s teacher will receive $500 to put towards a project or supplies to directly benefit the winner’s class. There are also certificates for the Most Beautiful Poster and the Best Kite Safety Message.”
“As Bermudians, we love to fly kites, especially as we approach Good Friday,” stated BELCO President, Dennis Pimentel.
“The kite safety campaign gives young students critical information to help them fly their kites safely. The poster competition is a way of encouraging these students to share that knowledge so that the whole community is reminded of the importance of keeping kites far away from power lines and knowing to call 9-5-5 for help if a kite does happen to get stuck.”
