Mountain Bike Race Held At Ferry Reach

March 11, 2019

The 2018/2019 Bermuda Bicycle Association’s Fat Tire Massive Mountain Bike Race Season continued with action taking place at Ferry Reach.

A spokesperson said, “Ferry Point Park welcomed the stalwart competitors in the conclusion of the 2018/19 Fat Tire Massive Points Race series with a +2-mile Island Games caliber course.

“A Bermudaful perfect sunny day with light breezes tickled the spectators as the racers ground their way around the Park. The notable additions to this last epic battlefield were;

“1/ The extension of the course to include Ferry island which has not been part of a course for a very long time.

“2/ Strategically hidden portable speakers along the course playing calypso, r+b and reggae for an extra boost of adrenalin during the race.

“Fifty eight riders took to the course in six divisions.

“The Male Open Class saw the return of several previous race winners with the likes of Dominic Mayo, Adam Kirk, Brian Steinhoff, Hans Hirchi, Charles Swart and Alan Potts ready to do battle. Dominic took and early lead and never looked back.

“The rest of the pack swapped places a few times but at the end, Dominic took the win with Brian Steinhoff second and Adam Kirk third. While Hans finished seventh, he is still the season Male Open Points winner.

“Ashley Robinson finished in style despite having clinched the Open Female Points win several events ago. Her husband Jenai Robinson provided a victory escort over the last lap!

“In the 13-16 class, the season long rivalry between Moses Johnson, Blake Oliviera and Cameron Morris looked primed for an exciting conclusion and for a few laps, there was some tough Jousting but Cameron appeared to have some difficulty in the latter stages of the race leaving Moses to claim his second class win. Blake took Second and Kyran Baptiste-Jones secured a third-place finish. Despite this, Cameron took the overall Points season win for the class.

“Remember, the BBA Mountain Bike National Championships race is coming! It is a Pre signup only race. The registration is on www.racedayworld.com.

“To our sponsors, RMS Boatworks, Arch Re, BF&M, One Communications Ltd, and Goslings, thank you so much for your support during the season, also thanks to the support given by Spar Yard Marine Solutions and Cameras Carpentry who made trucks available as needed for course setup and race day operations.”
