Annual Baha’i Convention From April 26th To 28th

April 24, 2019

The Bermudian Bahá’í community will hold its 39th annual National Convention at the Bahá’í National Centre from April 26 to April 28.

A spokesperson said, “The Bermudian Bahá’í community is observing the Festival of Ridván from 21 April to the 2 May. These twelve days commemorate the period that Bahá’u'lláh, prophet/founder of the Bahá’í faith spent in the Garden of Ridván before leaving Baghdad, Iraq in April 1863. The first, ninth and twelfth days of the Festival of Ridván are specially commemorated as holy days.

“It was in this garden that Bahá’u'lláh announced to several of His followers that He was the promised one whose coming was foretold by all the prophets of the past. He assumed the name Baha’u’llah, which when translated means “the Glory of God”, and His followers became known as Bahá’ís.

“It is during these twelve days of Ridván, which marks the beginning of the Bahá’í administrative year, that all governing institutions of the community local, national and international are elected. While these bodies are elected yearly, the international governing body, the Universal House of Justice, is elected once every five years.

“Beginning Friday, 26 April all nineteen delegates and observers will gather at the Bahá’í National Centre to hold its 39th annual National Convention.

“Delegates will hear reports on the progress of the faith in Bermuda and throughout the world. A message from the international administrative body of the Bahá’í Faith—The Universal house of Justice, located on Mt. Carmel in the Holy Land, will be read at the convention.

“The primary function of the convention is the election of the nine-member-body, the National Spiritual Assembly which administers the affairs of the faith in Bermuda for the next twelve months.

“The Bahá’í faith regards the current world confusion and calamitous condition in human affairs as a natural phase in an organic process leading ultimately and irresistibly to the unification of the human race in a single social order whose boundaries are those of the planet; as promised in the Lord’s Prayer, Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven.”
