April 8, 2019

The Bermuda Festival of the Performing Arts announced today [April 8] that Executive Director T.J. Armand will leave his role with the organisation following the conclusion of the 2019 Festival.

“Mr. Armand has served in the position for the past year and has cited the need to tend to his recording projects, along with the development of his long-awaited musical [Sama] in New York and London as the reason for his departure,” said Chairman David Skinner.

“While I’m sad to have a valued leader in our organisation depart, T.J.’s achievements with the Festival has been abundantly documented by the great reviews of the Festival productions,” said Mr Skinner.

“Under T.J.’s leadership, we have also initiated our Shakespeare On The Rock Student Outreach programme and our inaugural Edgar Humann Award for outstanding achievement in performing arts in Bermuda”

“Mr. Armand also pursued a successful fundraising and marketing campaign for the Festival, especially with our Empowerment Of Women theme. He has secured the booking of Grammy Award-winning artists like Chaka Khan and The Manhattan Transfer, not to mention The Queen’s Six and Tony Award nominee for her role as Janis Joplin: Mary Bridget Davies.

“He also brought Christina Ham’s thought-provoking play Nina Simone Four Women to St. Paul AME, along with Terrence Mc Nally’s Tony Award-winning play Master Class. We wish him the very best in his future endeavours” added Mr. Skinner.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to have served as the Executive Director of the Festival’s 44th season and I strongly believe the Festival will continue to bring the very best of the Performing Arts to the Island and passionately support Bermudian youth with Student Outreach programmes ,” said Mr. Armand.

“I’m truly gratified about what our team has achieved, and I will look back at season 44 with pride for years to come.”

The Bermuda Festival has started a process to fill the soon-coming vacancy.
