Cannonier: Astonishing U-Turn On Bus Schedule

April 26, 2019

“This is an astonishing and highly embarrassing U-turn,” OBA Leader Craig Cannonier said following news that the Government will revert back to the old bus schedule.

Mr. Cannonier said, “I agree 100 percent with the Shadow Transport Minister Leah Scott that restoring the old timetable was the right thing to do as, clearly, the new schedule was causing considerable problems for bus users which would have got worse with the influx of visitors in the summer.

“However, I want to add a bit more context to this. On March 26, a statement from the Transport Ministry, which presumably the Minister sanctioned, said that initial results from a survey into the new schedule had been ‘good and generally positive’.

“A month later we are told, abruptly, that the new schedule is to be abandoned. This is an astonishing and highly embarrassing U-turn by the Minister.

“When the new schedule was announced, we had the Bermuda Industrial Union, the Minister and the DPT all rejoicing that at last, after 17 years in the making, that there was finally something to work with.

“Yet one of the reasons given for abandoning the schedule was a lack of rest time for drivers. How was this not spotted before the schedule was put in place?

“Finally, the Premier was quoted recently as saying ‘The Government will be judged by how we deliver.’ Mr Premier, the public has judged and what has been delivered has failed.”

Pee El Pee can’t figure out a bus schedule and they want to take over The COH?!!?!?!?! Hahahaha!!

    • MB says:

Sorry but am I missing something here?
The schedule was abandoned because drivers not getting enough rest?
Since when was driving a bus like doing a triathlon??
They sit on their a$$ all day and drive 35 for an hour have a coffee and then hit the road
It’s not flying a jet fgs

    • The real question says:

The UBPeee will never win with jet gate Craig in charge. What’s real funny is they even know it lololol.

      • Question says:

The OBA are a bunch of boys trying to do a man’s job. They’re pathetic.

      • Come correct says:

That’s not funny it’s actually sad that they can’t find a competent leader to represent them, so they stuck jetgate there. They need Mr,Dunkely and a few other business men to lead,

      • Come Correct says:

Good. You got what you wanted when you voted in a party that has literally failed at everything. Why stop now? Why don’t you talk about DREBs jetgate that actually cost the taxpayer money? You’re a fool, that’s why.

  2. wahoo says:

They make being in opposition very easy don’t they? OJ will blurt out “jetgate” and go on his/her merry, Koolaid soaked, way. Incredible state of affairs that we have such an incompetent bunch in charge.

  3. Shut up says:

Anyone can criticize! What about coming clean on JetGate and where the money went that made your Chairman resign in obvious disbelief and disgust?

    • DeOnion says:

who cares? what did that cost the taxpayer, huh? What about the PLP comes clean about all those massive overspends? what about they come clean about the massive debt they got us into? 16 of the last 20 years they’ve been in power and what have we got to show for it?

    • 2 Bermudas says:

Detz what de Pee El Pee did for nearly 5 years. Now where are de solutions?!?!?! Mold still in schools and busses still not running on time. Hahahaha!! Titty milk drinka!!

  4. Humpty Dumpty says:

    Get Em Cannonier!!

  5. watching says:

The bus schedule was an issue before the OBA won in 2012 and was still an issue in 2017.
Mr Cannonier was Premier for a portion of those years.

What did he do to solve the scheduling issue?

    • red rose says:

Fair point but they are not the ones that went mutual backslapping, calling it a great day when the schedule was done. They are not the ones who said results from a survey said the public was happy with the new schedule – so they are not the ones that look like idiots :)

      • aceboy says:

        Correct.

But all these guys think is 25-11 and “Jetgate” while ignoring anything about the multitude of issues the PLP had, including their own Jetgate which is conveniently ignored.

      • Question says:

You’ve had 25-11 for two solid years. This is a problem you own. No one else.

    • Toodle-oo says:

The OBA would never have been able to rectify it as it was the BIU against them , all the way .The OBA knew the union was all about obtaining a schedule that resulted in the max overtime for its members regardless of how many serviceable buses there was and they knew we couldn’t afford it.
Like all other private services that operate on two or more shifts that are considered ‘normal working hours’ and there is no overtime except on public holidays this is what the bus driver’s schedule should consist of.
Had it not been about milking the taxpayers for the maximum amount of money possible I’m sure the new schedule could have come into effect 16 years ago.

  6. Dready says:

The OBA will never win with its current leadership

    • red rose says:

rather the OBA lot than the current bunch – these PLP guys are clueless, what economic plan have we seen?

    • Question says:

Just do your frikin job, you have 25-11

We’re sick and tired of the excuses. It’s pathetic.

      • Bull says:

No excuse now go along and play with Craig in the jet gate park.

        • Question says:

You’re the ones giving away money to millionaire insiders. Do your frikkin job. Idiots.

        • sandgrownan says:

Is that the best you’ve got? LOL.

More PLP/BIU failure. 17-21 years. A record unblemished with success.

Tell be about GlobalHue when you take your head out of your a$$.

          • Dr. the Hon. Ewart F. Brown says:

Racists cannot stand that under Globalhue, the visitor air arrivals were the highest in 20 years! Sorry!

            • question says:

and yet the minute your successor got the chance she cancelled the contract.

Globalhue cost us as much as the AC. It was when they were under contract that the Grand Hyatt project fell flat on its face.

              • Dr. the Hon. Ewart F. Brown says:

                Read my book for explanations!

        • Come Correct says:

I can only assume you’ll go play with DREB in the jet gate park too. How does it feel to be back in the “platinum period”?

    • Come Correct says:

Good! This is a democracy. Give the majority what they want. I find it hilarious.

  7. Vote no more says:

1.2 m would have paid for a schedule I’m sure.

  8. Mixitup says:

I will also criticize them. This is unacceptable, do we get a refund from the ‘Consultant?’’ Get it together please!!

  9. 2scoops says:

The PLP won the last election, when are they going to be responsible
for anything that is happening now

    • Keepin' it Real!...4Real! says:

They sound like those lunatic leftist liberals trying to find collusion between D TRUMP and Russia…even after their investigators could find anything they still won’t move on.

  10. Time Shall Tell says:

A government that actually listens to its constituency & adjusts is policy accordingly, I can see how that’s a foreign concept to you that you would find it astonishing. Maybe if you had tried this yourself during your parties reign then the OBA would possibly still be in power.

    • Question says:

If they listen why are they taxing food, screwing up trash collection, teachers are up in arms, no reliable bus service, millions of taxpayer dollars given to millionaire insiders. Give us a break. 25-11 and two years, and nothing is going right.

      • Time Shall Tell says:

Food has been taxed since day one (healthier choices need to be made & stores need to stop gouging while trying to justify it by saying their “spreading the cost”), trash collection issues goes back a number of years, new trucks were ordered to address this but if you remember the workers wrecked a couple of them soon after, teachers have always said they don’t get paid enough (globally), This whole post is about addressing the bus issues, pay to play has been around as long as politics have been around. The reason for 25-11 was because things weren’t going right otherwise there wouldn’t have been a 25-11 in the first place.

  11. Angela says:

So it’s okay for a Bus Operator driver 7 hours or more and not take a break and cause Accident

    • Question says:

Funny how you didn’t mention this when they introduced the schedule to great fanfare and self-congratulation 7 weeks ago.

    • Ok says:

Sitting in ac for 45 min trips….people are soft
