St George’s Marine Expo To Be Held On Sunday
The 4th annual St. George’s Marine Expo will now be held on Sunday, May 19th from 11am – 6pm, due to a change in date as a result of the weather.
The Bermuda Economic Development Corporation [BEDC] along with Title Sponsor, RUBIS Energy Bermuda, invites the public to come out and enjoy all the festivities that are planned.
One of the highlights of this year’s EXPO is the partnership with the Bermuda Powerboat Association [BPBA]. The launch of the race season will still occur at the EXPO on May 19th.
Robert Cardwell, Commodore of the BPBA, said, “Viewing the race from Ordnance Island will be spectacular, as all races bring elements of excitement.”
BEDC MSME Director, Ray Lambert, said, “We are so fortunate to still be able to include this exciting activity as part of the EXPO despite the change in date. Attendees will be in for a treat, as the almost 360 view from Ordnance Island will provide an optimal experience of the races.”
In addition, the Marine Expo 2019 will showcase the many businesses, organizations and opportunities involved in Bermuda’s Maritime Industry. This includes retail vendors, like Marine Locker, and AP Marine, community organisations like the Bermuda Gigs and the Endeavor Programme.
The Expo plans to bring the Town of St. Georges to life by targeting boating and marine enthusiasts from across the island thanks to a dedicated team including representatives from BEDC, Bermuda Yacht Services, The St. George’s Foundation, and the Corporation of St. George.
According Mr. Lambert, “We are still on target to have an even bigger and better event this year. More vendors are signing up as a result of the extra week.
“The Expo continues to be a great opportunity to highlight products and services in the Marine Industry. The beauty of the event is that by virtue of the thousands of people that will be heading to St. Georges on Sunday the 19th, all businesses have a chance to benefit.”
Event Co-founder, Mark Soares of Bermuda Yacht Service, said, “The event is important and a great opportunity to show your wares and services to the public. Ordnance Island is an excellent venue for the Expo, and we look forward to the continued success of this event.”
Graham Redford, Managing Director of Rubis Energy Bermuda Ltd., says, “RUBIS is pleased to be the Lead Sponsor for Marine Expo 2019 and we are excited to be able to support initiatives that drive business to the Town and bring tangible economic benefits to the local businesses. It is also a great way to bring the community closer together and celebrate our strong maritime heritage.”
This year’s Marine Expo will be host to a variety of participating businesses and organizations with thousands of attendees expected throughout the day.
In the words of Jennifer Pitcher, Community Engagement, Development & Partnerships Manager of Endeavor Community Sailing, “It’s a fun, family-friendly event that brings together our Island community through Bermuda’s maritime heritage and we can’t think of a better place than St. George’s to host the event given its historical significance.”
